Position Summary:

The Senior Enterprise Architect will be a key planning, delivery & governance role with enterprise level influence at VOYA Financial.  This role will contribute to the build out of the enterprise architecture and roadmap for the company's technology strategy. They will leverage their experience in various technology domains to provide guidance for strategic technology projects and key line of business initiatives. This role will partner with internal technology groups and stakeholders at multiple levels to ensure that proposed technical solutions align with the company's overall objectives. They will also serve as a strategic partner to business & IT leaders, internal innovation teams, and IT functional areas by helping them identify and take advantage of new opportunities while providing guidance and ensuring solutions align with the business and IT strategy.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and evolve a business technology strategy including the strategic roadmap for IT systems
  • Develop IT Strategies & Roadmaps to drive investments in enterprise capabilities
  • Develop application and infrastructure rationalization framework to reduce technical debt
  • Support application and technology portfolio management processes & tools to provide transparency and reduce technical debt.
  • Establish and share architectural best practices and lessons learned
  • Evolve/update the enterprise architecture based on changing technologies, and knowledge related to recent, current and upcoming vendor products and solutions
  • Support architecture governance, technology standards processes and reference architecture development.
  • Evaluate business, information, application, and technology views of the solutions and identify risks
  • Collaborate regularly with peers and representatives from each line of business
  • Monitor new technological advances in application development and information technologies.
  • Partner with business and technology subject matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions
  • Develops audit and review checklists ensuring compliance to enterprise standards
  • Ensure that solution architects understand the Enterprise Architecture and are producing deliverables that are compliant with the Enterprise Architecture, IT standards and principles
  • Research solutions and emerging technologies on the market for particular technical requirements and business needs
  • Remain active in external networks to proactively integrate new technologies as business needs change
  • Contribute to peer reviews, technical audits, and technology standards processes
  • Collaborate with and mentor other enterprise & solution architects
  • Partner with product and service vendor partner
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.


Position Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience as an architect
  • Experience in other technical roles such as systems engineer or infrastructure analyst
  • Experience in other technical roles such as a data modeler, DBA, or data analyst
  • Strong knowledge of application development processes, DevOps, and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of data management and database development technologies and processes including logical data modeling techniques.
  • Ability to translate complex technical terminology, concepts and issues in terms understandable to technical and non-technical management and staff.
  • Strong knowledge of security controls and basic security architecture patterns and practices
  • The ability to establish, implement and enforce appropriate IT standards to meet business requirements.
  • Proven capabilities to understand the business drivers and risks, explain complex technical concepts to senior business leaders as well as the ability to have deep technical discussions with Solution Architects and technical teams
  • Experience with capability mapping and enterprise architecture roadmaps.
  • Experience in defining and managing governance processes
  • Experience designing, integrating, and managing complex technology solutions.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering.
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business and technical groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organization skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to build consensus among many stakeholders.
  • Expert consultative skills at a cross functional level
  • Experience with multiple Architecture frameworks and project delivery methodologies
  • Prior experience with financial services, retirement or insurance is highly desirable
  • Ability to create rich diagrams and visual presentations in support of project delivery and strategy work
  • Ability to effectively work in and navigate a matrixed, multi-vendor organization
