Position Summary:

The Enterprise Architect Consultant will be a key planning role for Venerable Holdings, Inc. They are a practice leader and will provide architecture support and guidance to technology projects and key LOB initiatives as a shared resource. The Enterprise Architect Consultant maintains an enterprise perspective and focuses on strategic planning and establishing architecture definitions. They link the business mission, strategy, and processes of the organization to its IT strategy. They document this using multiple architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of an organization will be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile, and adaptable manner.  They contribute to the development of standards and design patterns for development.  They closely monitor technology trends and interpret potential impact or application for Venerable Holdings, Inc.


Position Description:

  • Contributes to and leads architecture governance, technology standards processes and architecture frameworks development.
  • Contributes to and elaborates IT strategies.
  • Helps to formulate and define technical scope and objectives of projects and technology initiatives.
  • Responsible for end-to-end architectural integrity of a specific initiative or application and the relationship with other projects within the context of a given program.
  • Maintains strong knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
  • Illustrates technical proficiency in hardware and systems software, as well as experience implementing packages and working with vendors.
  • Understand latest architecture, technology, solutions, and industry trends
  • Serve as part of the team which is responsible for high level architecture and design of project solution
  • Serve as the key customer-facing technical resource and focus on systems rather than on specific technologies
  • Consider various proposals of technical solutions based on customer requirements, product knowledge and system processes
  • Strategic thinker.  Conceptualize solutions that address customer opportunities and issues.
  • Evaluate business, information, application, and technology views of the solution approach and identify risks
  • Participate actively on reviewing end-to-end solution processes
  • Participate actively on preparing technical documents including time estimation and implementation requirements
  • Contribute to  Senior Enterprise Architecture standards; advocate the adoption of standard project frameworks, methodologies, and procedures
  • Defines and develops audit and review checklists ensuring compliance to enterprise standards
  • Defines and improves architecture processes and artifacts
  • Contribute to peer reviews, technical audits, and technology standards processes

Knowledge & Experience:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience as an architect or similar role
  • 4-6 years of experience in other technical roles such as systems engineer or infrastructure analyst
  • Broad technical expertise across compute, storage, network, middleware, and database domain areas
  • Familiarity with the common service models for Cloud Delivery (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Experience in deploying Infrastructure As Code including Configuration Management (Puppet Enterprise)
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services
  • Ability to communicate to onshore and offshore development teams on cloud computing standards
  • Significant experience leading strategic technology framework development, capability mapping, and operating model development assignments
  • Extensive background partnering with stakeholders to develop architecture frameworks that align strategy, processes, people and technology with overall business objectives. 
  • Significant experience establishing best practices and guidelines for selecting, developing, and implementing information systems within an enterprise
  • Strong knowledge of network engineering concepts and architectures
  • Strong knowledge of security controls and basic security architecture patterns and practices
  • Expert consultative skills at a cross functional level
  • Very strong  presentation & communication skills: Ability to translate and clearly formulate technical issues
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to reach well-reasoned solutions and solve problems through a thoughtful process of analyzing data.
  • Team Mentality: Partner effectively to drive and execute on common goals.
  • Business Acumen: Appreciate and understand the financial services industry. Prior experience with financial services, retirement, insurance, or medical records industry highly desirable
  • Learning Agility: Open to new ways of thinking and acquiring new skills to retain a competitive advantage.  Eagerness to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Ability to create rich diagrams and visual presentations in support of project delivery and strategy work
